CODACON 27 · Opening Keynote
Daniel Coyle
The Culture Code: The New Science of Successful Groups
Daniel Coyle explores how organizations including Pixar, Navy SEALs Team Six, IDEO, and the San Antonio Spurs build cohesive teams. Drawing on The Culture Code, he examines the everyday signals that create belonging and the practical behaviors that strengthen trust and collaboration.
The presentation explains how leaders can deliberately shape group culture, with lessons about the verbal and physical cues that bring people together and the conditions that help teams cooperate.

At camp
For camp leaders, these ideas invite a closer look at how staff experience belonging, how colleagues build trust, and how a shared purpose becomes part of everyday camp life. They offer a useful lens on staff orientation, communication across teams, and creating a community where counselors and campers feel connected.

About the book ↗Daniel Coyle with Adam Grant
What separates shallow fun from deep fun—and how do great organizations create cultures where people genuinely thrive?
Daniel Coyle joins organizational psychologist Adam Grant to explore how successful organizations build meaningful workplace cultures.
For camp directors, the conversation raises an especially relevant question: How do we create an environment where staff feel connected, find purpose in their work, and become part of something greater than themselves?
It’s a natural connection to the culture we strive to build at camp, both for our staff and the campers they serve.
