Calm in the Cabin: Supporting Anxious and Depressed Campers with Confidence
Breakout Block Four: Tuesday/8:30am
Children experiencing anxiety or depression often face unique challenges in the overnight camp setting. Behaviors that look like defiance, clinginess, or withdrawal are frequently signs of distress. This session examines the behavioral patterns associated with anxiety and mood disorders and offers practical, evidence-based strategies for building distress tolerance, promoting emotional regulation, and supporting campers without reinforcing avoidance or other maladaptive coping behaviors. Attendees will leave with concrete tools to strengthen staff confidence, foster camper resilience, and maintain a supportive camp culture where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
